Has anyone purchased their kitchen cabinets, etc from Home Depot?

We recently had our kitchen designed at Home Depot–cabinets, countertops, etc. Now I'm hearing their merchandise is of a lower quality. My question is this–if I'm actually getting my cabinets, etc from another manufacturer (say, Kraftmaid) but buying them through HD, how can their merchandise be lower quality? Besides, I'm sure the manfacturer is the one that backs their products, not Home Depot.
Has anyone heard of this? What has your experience been with HD as far as kitchen materials?

P.S.–HD will NOT be installing them.

  1. I have personally installed about 30 kitchens and have this opinion about Home Depot designers….not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

They have little concept of tight spaces. An example is not considering the dishwasher swing in a corner with adjacent drawers; the dishwasher door would hit the drawer knobs if installed to original design. Your contractor (me) would have to spend (waste) valuable time to re-arrange the layout to make everything fit (unpaid). Your HD designer sits never knowing what a bonehead flaw (she, usually) presented the installer and really couldn't care less.

As far as materials, HD stuff is of decent quality and should last a lifetime. We'd all like Kraft-made but, for most folks it's out of the budget. Good Luck,
