non standard kitchen wall cabinet hanging?

Posted by answers

My new kitchen design calls for a 15" deep cabinet. The manufacturer doesn’t have the width we need in 15" depth so we have been told to use a 12" deep cabinet and pull it forward 3". Sounds simple enough, but we don’t have any experience with this application. Anybody have any useful advice or instructions?

  1. Your wall cabinets will need 2 2×4’s as stated which are 3". Attach two 2×4’s into the studs at your kitchens location of the top of your wall cabinet and the bottom of your wall cabinet. You will have attached 4 – 2 x 4s plus vertical 2×4’s at the edge of your wall cabinet if one end is exposed where people can see it.

If one end of your cabinet end panels is seen – you will need a filler strip or a large piece of decorative trim molding to cover the 2 x 4’s where your cabinet meets into your kitchen’s wall. You may wish to add vertical 2 x4’s at this location for a solid backer to fasten your filler or cabinet molding to..
